I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Seattle several times by now, and with my sister living there, it’s always been a special trip. This vibrant and “artsy” city never fails to surprise me with its endless array of activities and, most importantly, its amazing food and cafe scenes. Just last week, I packed my bag and took the bus from Pacific Central Station in Vancouver to spend a few days in Seattle, celebrating my sister’s graduation (Yay! So proud of her). I’m thrilled to share my excitement and some of the wonderful places I visited on this trip. I hope these finds will inspire your next trip to Seattle! 😉
- Ben Bread’s Co
One of the absolute highlights of my recent trip to Seattle was finally getting to visit Ben Bread’s Co Bakery in Phinney Ridge. This place has been on my radar for quite some time, and I’ve eagerly anticipated a visit, especially after hearing that Ben Campbell of Ben Bread’s Co was nominated as a semifinalist for the James Beard Award for Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker!
Thanks to my sister and her boyfriend, who were just as excited as I was, we made the trip to this renowned bakery. The experience did not disappoint. We were treated to some of the freshest pastries and bread I’ve ever had, with unique flavors that I couldn’t have imagined but turned out to be delightful surprises.
Here’s a taste of what we tried and loved:
- Blue Corn Pound Cake: My absolute favorite! The sweet-savory flavor mix was just right and pleasantly surprising. Hard to explain in words, but I strongly recommend you to experience it by yourself :).
- Sweet Brioche Blackberry / Meyer Lemon: This was my sister and her boyfriend’s top pick. The balance between the sweet and tart flavours (and hint of salty) was perfect.
- Savory Brioche Danish (With Artichoke): A wonderful savory option that stood out among the pastries. I Love the cheese and artichoke combination, and strongly recommend heating the pastry before tasting it.
- Sourdough English Muffin with French Butter and Housemade Jam: To me, this sourdough english muffin is just a brilliant idea. The tangy sourdough combined with the rich butter and jam was a comforting breakfast bite.
If you find yourself in Seattle, a visit to Ben Bread’s Co bakery is very recommended. It sure will leave you with lasting impressions! 🙂
- Yezi Coconut Dessert
If you find yourself exploring the Bellevue area, make sure to leave some room for a delightful dessert at Bellevue’s very first coconut dessert shop, Yezi. Personally, this is one of the most fun and delicious dessert experiences I’ve ever had. It’s incredible how a simple concept like coconut desserts can be transformed into such creative and flavorful treats with a variety of fruit pairings.
The best part of Yezi’s coconut desserts is their smooth, pudding-like texture, which perfectly balances flavor and consistency. The sweetness level is just right, hitting the perfect spot for my taste.
Here are the two flavors we tried and loved:
- Mango Mochi Coconut: A refreshing, delightful combination of flavors and textures that perfectly blend really well in your mouth.
- Caramelized Durian Coconut: if you are a durian fan, this is an absolute must-try! The caramelized durian adds a unique twist that’s simply irresistible.
- Cafe Hagen
During this trip, I had the pleasure of visiting Cafe Hagen in South Lake Union (SLU) for the first time, and I fell in love instantly. The Cafe’s vibes, with its spacious indoor and outdoor areas, combined with an exciting menu, made for a memorable experience. Most importantly, I enjoyed one of the most delicious iced lattes I’ve ever tasted. Whether you prefer an original iced latte or a flavored one, Cafe Hagen is hands down one of best coffee spots in Seattle.
Some of coffees we tried and loved:
- Original Iced Latte: A classic latte with mysterious blend, brewed to perfection! As for my experience, it has distinct coffee notes that are very unique and delicious.
- Kobenhaven Iced Latte: fun iced latte experience, features classic Scandinavian flavors with almond and cardamom, combined with rich espresso and perfectly steamed milk. Must Try!
- FOB Sushi Bar
I have to say, FOB Sushi Bar has one of the most creative sushi concepts ever. This place serves up some of the tastiest fusion sushi I’ve ever had, with a focus on fast service, lots of meat (which we love), generous sauces, and affordability. It’s no wonder this spot has become a hit among younger generations (at least from my observation).
We don’t have a favorite because every item on the menu is delicious! I highly recommend you come and taste for yourself. To sum up my experience at FOB Sushi Bar in three words: convenient, delicious and satisfying!
- Noi Thai
If you have a taste for delicious Thai cuisine, I highly recommend Noi Thai for your next visit. The restaurant boasts an elegant ambiance, top-notch customer service, beautiful presentations, good-tasting food, and yet remains quite affordable. It’s an excellent voice for treating your family and celebrating special occasions like birthdays, family gatherings or a simply fun night out with friends!
Some of our favorite dishes:
- Crispy garlic chicken
- Tom Yum Lobster
- Pineapple Fried Rice
- Bangkok Red Curry
These are just a few of the restaurants and cafes that made a lasting impression during my recent visit to Seattle. As I write this, I still feel the excitement of trying new foods, especially the joy of sharing these great meals with wonderful company. If you have any recommendations for my next trip, I’d love to hear them and please leave a comment on the post! 🙂
